Right after the Conor’s thirth fight against Dustin, I wanted to give my thoughts about his current state in his career and some lessons can be taken from it.

Conor McGregor is a greatly known MMA athlete and an icon. He has achieved tons of success and attention last 7–8 years.

Conor was the champion of two divisions just couple years ago.

Now currently he is struggling in his combat sport career. But why ?

I could list the technical notes like how poor cardio he has, low grappling and bjj skills(still) but this time I will approach from moral aspect.

So I want to come to point straight away.

Here is the major reason of his struggling from my point of view.

He stopped working hard and relied on his skills a lot !

Yeah, this is the biggest reason. All the other bad decisions like laying down for over a year ,having pool parties, firing his coaches and sparring partners, not practicing enough bjj-grappling, and all the other bad decisions are linked to the reason I mentioned above.

Yeah Conor is certainly skilled in fighting and getting in to opponents head. Conor relied on his skills more than he should. He always was thinking that “I’m Conor McGregor and I’m above all those guys. I can jump to octagon straight after a party and still beat them. I’m talented and this is almost enough.

This level of competition never ever tolerates such a mindset for long time. Okay, you are talented, gifted, blessed and have all the other natural born advantages. But is this enough ?

A big NO !

The opponents in the division are outworking you, sticking their diet, stay disciplined, work hard on their gaps to close them. So at the end of the day its not surprising that they get the victory.

Some people might think that he is already rich therefore he is not motivated anymore. He doesnt need to earn money by getting punched in the face. Yeah this idea might be true for all other people but not people like Conor. Such people are fed mainly by success, not only money. If he retires now then he always will have something lacking inside his heart. So I dont think Conor is okay with being loser in the sport. Maybe its acceptable that he is not hungry like before but certainly he still wants to hear claps for him.

The story of Conor is just front of us but there are tons of such stories in our lives around us. Many of smart people are not in the positions they want because they failure to bring required effort to table.

Come to an end I want to finish with a powerful sentence which I totally agree.

“Hard work beats talent.”
